Vanderbilt Mortgage company refuses to sign a paper that would allow me to change my doublewide into real property. I have been unemployed now for a year. Thanks to my wife's job we have not lost our home nor will we. We were made aware of a government program that would pay our house payment for 2 years. The only catch was that we had to put a permanent foundation underneath the doublewide. We scraped and saved and built the foundation over the course of several weeks. We went to a lawyer to have the house changed over and found that Vanderbilt had to sign a release form in order for this change to 'real property' to occur. The lawyer has assured both myself and Vanderbilt that their intersests would remain intact. Vanderbilt REFUSED! I am have currently been speaking with Vanderbilt representatives over the course of this week.
Their tactics are simple. Threaten, intimidate, and insult. The people I speak with rotate. The first set will almost always be rude and make an attempt at intimidation, the second tries to be helpful and assures me that Vanderbilt has my best intersest at heart and want to help me. Then they get off the phone with the promise to call back. Sometimes they do, its been 50/50 so far. But they always call back and say that 'they have spoken with their bosses and they can't do this at this time.' I respond by asking to speak with said 'bosses'. In a week I am up to what they call the senior account rep. I have told them that I am going to call every day for 2 years. Between what the government would pay for my payment plus the amount that I pay currently I have told them I am losing 1400 dollars a month (low figure).
This is merely my first step in combatting Vanderbilt. I hope that some TV station will actually pick this up and help, not only me but everyone fighting this mortgage company. IN my hometown alone I know of 4 other people that has had similar bad experiences with Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt, along with a disturbingly large amount of others, feel that if an individual chooses to purchase a trailor that they are second class citizens! Vanderbilt loans to these 'types of people' because they feel they are uneducated or ignorant. This is a false stereotype.
My wife will have her Masters degree by next year at this time and I will have finished my Bachelors degree by the same time. We and our friends, of which many have doublewides, are far from uneducated and ignorant. With a little luck we can create enough of a stir to take this giant bully, Vanderbilt, to its knees!

Posted 1 year agoReport - It's pretty pathetic when people think they don't have to take responsibility anymore. You signed a loan and guess what you have to pay for it. Stuff happens, some bad some good, but you are the one at fault here. Unfortunately you have a bill and if you can't or don't pay they will collect. Same with doctors, cars and guess what...YOUR HOME! I doubt this conversation will work anywhere:
You -- "Excuse me, I can't pay my bills anymore so...I won't"
Company -- "That's fine. Heck we didn't enter into the agreement to make money! Those contracts don't matter! Tell you what, you just quit paying and we will take the loss. Now you have a nice life!"
No I'm sure I'll be called insensitive and a jerk, and accused of working for vanderbilt...I don't. But I was someone in the same situation, only difference was I owned up and got myself out of it. The bank was doing their job.
