Sent to a friend Jordan River Moving and Storage - so far missing two iPods and, briefly, MY CAR, and Jordan River Moving is missing the name of the alleged criminal they hired to unload goods into my home.I moved across country and contacted Isaac’s Relocation, as I was pleased with how they’d handled a past move. On learning Isaac’s would be subcontracting to Jordan River Moving and Storage, the direct quote I’d previously gotten from Jordan River Moving was so much lower I went with them. Despite seeing negative web reviews, if Isaac’s used them, that was good enough for me.
This is very unfortunate because so far I am missing two iPods and, briefly, my car. The key was apparently not hidden well enough and it would seem one of the Jordan River movers stole the key and then my car either during the move or when one came back a little later saying he’d dropped his cell phone during the move -- he’d been in my house already, less supervised, and if something went wrong Jordan River Moving had his information -- right? WRONG. I did not realize how big a mistake it was until I discovered on asking Jordan River Moving about the alleged thief that they DID NOT GET ANY INFORMATION ON HIM --
Apparently, Jordan River Moving’s truck driver is an employee, but of the second person unloading goods into my home – Jordan River Moving and Storage has no records, not a name, not an address, not a driver’s license photocopy, not anything.
It may be industry practice to hire local workers at the delivery end of moves, but Jordan River Moving did nothing in the way of due diligence let alone even recording a name. Running a full background check may be expensive, but doing a web search is free and takes little time, and may turn up useful results from local police, court, and sex offender lists. It only takes a name and address, which Jordan River Moving did not have. I guess I should feel extremely lucky Jordan River Moving hired only the alleged thief who stole items in my house instead of having someone committing more serious crimes.
When confronted with how incomprehensibly irresponsible Jordan River Moving has been in this situation, their customer service replied “We have the right to hire whoever we want.” That is a direct quote, not out of context. They do not seem to comprehend or care that when they sent him into my home under the Jordan River Moving name it confers a reasonable expectation of, if not a full background check and bonding, at the very least knowing their worker’s basic personal information so I could give it to the police if something went wrong as it did in this case. Jordan River’s customer service only response in the way of remedy is to say “Call the police,” but the police can’t do anything further without the basic personal information one would expect an employer to take on an employee or hired worker.
The call with Jordan River Moving and Storage’s customer service proved to me that they are more interested in weaseling out of their responsibility in the situation than dealing with the fact that they may be sending thieves and other criminals into people’s homes, and that they seemed quite defiant to keep doing so.
Fortunately, the alleged criminal employed by Jordan River Moving parked my car in a permit-only location and got it towed. Several hundred dollars later for impound retrieval, an expensive refill of gas, $1000 to get the car keys changed, a few hundred to replace the iPods, and assorted other steps I’ll want to take to buff up security, the situation seems to be resolving itself…I hope. I’m still unpacking, so every box that hasn’t had something stolen by Jordan River Moving is a new relief.
The experience with Jordan River Moving has been poor throughout – along with the criminal activity, that “low price” now means “cheap” to me which conveys “low quality” (and the cost of replacing/repairing the stolen goods is higher than the savings was supposed to be). It’s tough to concentrate on all the phone calls which were not returned, incorrect information, lackadaisical attitude, and overall frustration it has been having Jordan River Moving and Storage handle my move when that’s all been overshadowed by the stunning lack of even the slightest consciousness of due diligence and sense of responsibility in their hiring practices which may include thieves and other criminals.
To anyone who values personal safety and the safety of loved ones, and the safety of material possessions I advise –
Do not use Jordan River Moving and Storage. A web search will produce a number of other terrible reviews – which sadly I did not listen to because Isaac’s Relocation was vouching for them by subcontracting to them. I hope others needing to move will read these reviews, be very careful that the moving company will not use a reprehensible subcontractor like Jordan River Moving and Storage, and take personal steps to make sure they are covered in case the movers may have hired a thief or other criminal like Jordan River Moving. I would suggest telling the company that you want a copy of an ID for anyone who will be entering your home as a minimal step.

The DOT rating of satisfactory is not like the BBB. It simply means you have not failed an inordinate number of inspections. I have yet to see someone with an unsatisfactory rating. Quit trying to mislead everyone. In fact, your driver Out Of Service rating is 99.6 (100 being the worst).
Customers should also know that Jordan River has had its license revoked twice in the last 7 months.

- As the owner of Jordan River Moving & Storage I would like to take moment to respond to the complaint filed by this customer. I would first like to say that this customer is grossly misrepresenting the facts of this move.
I met the customer personally when I did his visual estimate in Seattle. Since he was a referral from Isaacs Moving I gave him a “do not exceed estimate” based upon his previous move weight of 5,200 lbs. His mother was the one who was coordinating the pick up with us. She was very rude to me, our movers and to our customer service. We allowed her to write whatever she wanted on the contract. Her attitude completely changed when we weighed the shipment and informed her that the weight was less than her previous move of 5,200 lbs. We refunded the customer accordingly.
For delivery the driver hired a temp worker to help unload the shipment in Baltimore. We delivered the items on time within the promised time frame, nothing was damaged or missing. The customer signed all his moving documents, stating that he had received all of his items and that they were in good condition.
The day after the delivery the customer called to tell us that he was missing items. He informed us that the temp worker had come back stating that he had lost his cell phone in the customer’s house during the move the previous day. He allowed the man to enter his house and look around unsupervised. The customer stated that the temp worker came into his house and took some of his items.
The customer called us looking to get the man’s name and our customer service representative told him she would look into the situation and get back to him. The following day the customer called back again claiming that his car was now missing. When the customer service representative asked if he had contacted the police, he responded that he had not contacted the police because he was waiting for us to get information about the temp worker. She asked him, “Why wouldn’t you call the police, when your car is missing.” The whole situation is very strange and we are not responsible for anything that may have happened when the customer let someone into his home unsupervised. We cannot even be sure this was the same person who helped our mover unload the items.
Once the move is completed and all the paperwork is signed the moving company is no longer responsible. During all phases of the move nothing was missing or damaged. Every thing was done professionally and the delivery was completed on time, for less money than the customer had expected to pay.
For the customer to say that he received poor service from Jordan River Moving & Storage is not only rude, it is simply untrue. I urge any potential customer reading this complaint to look at all of the wonderful reviews there are about our company. We would also be more than happy to provide anyone with referrals from other customers who were very happy with the service they received from our company. We would also like to make it clear that the “facts” this customer provided about our company are completely false and untrue.
Posted 2 months agoReport - Jordan River Moving does not have any information on the person they hired, who turned out to be a criminal, and THAT is why anyone looking for a moving company should be scared to use them.
That point is not in contention - read Jordan River Moving's whole response and you'll see they are interested in covering themselves, not in the fact that they are dangerous.
