MagicJack is a Fraud - Magicjack Sucks

1. The 30 day free trial is next to impossible. They make sure their links don’t work.

2. Their 30 day free trial STARTS when you order, NOT when you activate, which is not what you are told if you ask them.

3. They lie, provide false information.

4. Their International calling rates are DOUBLE other VOIP competition.

5. They infect your computer with advertising, makes your computer impossible to use when starting up or when making a call.

6. They play “The Visa Game”, thats right, bill you for renewals after cancelling! Even if you change your card, thats right! My Visa card had lots of complaints and gave me lots of information.

YOU MUST send a letter to them cancelling any further right to bill your card.

7. You must return their jacks, a post office receipt is sufficient.

8. VISA will charge them back if they fail to refund within 30 days of a reasonable return shipping time.

9. Play the VISA game right back. Thats why you use a VISA to protect yourself.

10. They refuse to allow “adapters” or VOIP WiFi phones. That really ***.

11. Their entire organization appears based on FRAUD , it may be legal step by step but overall

it has the effect of failing to honor standard business practice to the point that

DAN is loosing credibility and soon MagicJack will be known as one of America’s most

Fraudulent organizations. I’ve had it with DAN, I wish I had never heard of these creeps.

12. They actually think consumers like me will take it up the rear end.

Sorry, I intend making a very large number of posts and contacting every single

news organization that gave them publicity. Those news organizations need to

pull their plugs and demand that Magicjack remove them.

MAgic Jack does not deserve any reccomendations by the press.

I recommend VOIPBUSTERS.com or one of the many other good businesses that provide

genuine value with out all the misleading deception and outright fraud.

  • I agree 100%. I wish we'd done better research before buying this crap. Magic Jack should be taken off of the market and people SHOULD be warned before purchasing such rubbish. I also found that the online chat help that they provide is through another company that basically gets paid to tell you what you want to hear and keeps you in the loop with technical errors so that contact becomes impossible if they don't like what they hear. honestly, there should be a class action lawsuit against this company - primarily the own/inventor for ever putting a peace of junk like this on the market.

  • I could spend all night on here bitching. I have one thing that I haven't noticed anyone talk about..I ordered 2 magic jacks. I was suppose to get free rushed shipping paid on one. Well to start I guess their definition of "rush" is two weeks. Secondly I then see the bill shows shipping for two magic jacks..Ok I start thinking to myself, why would I have to pay for 2 shipping in handling when they both came in the same package? I tried to explain to their horrible live chat person that I should be only charged for 1. They argued and argued no no no you have to pay for two. I even used the example: If I ordered 50 pens for your company would I have to pay S&H 50 times? Well the person with an IQ of a fly on the other end had no idea how to deal with that. They just ignored me. After 2-3 minutes I say "hello" you still there? Yes we are still here. SO I guess their theory is if you ignore the customer they will go away. This company is an embarrassment. Their customer service is a new low in the world of customer services. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CRAP. Their advertising is at best misleading, at worst a purposely deceptive criminal act. Seeing as they have already been taken to court you think they would smarten up!!! DO NOT ORDER THIS CRAP!!

  • My poor mother bought it and I just talked to the customer service line. Barely said anything and keep rejecting that my mother could return this product. Yes, her 30 trail is up but she never used the thing. Being that she is no good at English she saw this in a commercial and thought it would be a good investment she told me it said something along the lines of FREE international calling. Once I read the thing over it said only Canada and USA. She is furious and no one will attend to her in Spanish so I did my best talking on the phone. But these people speak like they are afraid of the phone or something always asking if your there or not and silent after a question. This product is a joke and we will keep on insisting you can count on it.

  • magic jack is a rip-off. they don't tell you many things you should know before you accept their free trial. they make speaking to a customer service person virtually impossible and the return process is difficult and time consuming. the live chat is a joke. i agree that there should be a class action suit against this fraudulant company, or at the very least, an investigation that would lead to getting it taken off the market. by the way, the real customer service number is 281 404-1551 and opens at 11 a.m. EST. please join me in telling everyone to STAY AWAY FROM MAGIC JACK!

  • How about false advertising saying you can make calls to anywhere in the USA and Canada. Not so. Try making a conference call and they won't let that number go through. That's why I got MJ. They want the people giving the conference call to get an account and then you can make a conference call and they want you to tell the people making a conference call to do this. Talk about stupid...

  • My magicjack works o.k. most of the time but I'm sick to death of the magicjack window popping up on a regular basis, all on it's own! I'll be typing an email, the window pops up and I'm typing within the window; it's a royal pain; I'm really tired of having to interrupt what I'm doing to close the magicjack window. I don't mind if the window pops up when I have an incoming call and I'm on the line with someone else, but other than that I NEVER want to see it!!! I've complained several times to the live chat people; supposedly someone is "working on it". Well, they're not working very hard! I don't understand why a company allows this to go be a continual source of irritation to their customers????

  • I called and cancelled the order for magicjack, got my refund but they have taken it out again. If anyone wants a class action suit against the company, count me in. I'm so sorry I got involved.

  • O'YEAH try getting your old number back. these people suck!!!!! Don't do it. 20 dollars to keep your same number. The quailty of the calls suck and it drops calls all the time. the caller ID sucks What a joke!!!!!!! Magic jacks plus SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A true nightmare I made an overseas call - it disconnected - I reinstaed the call. After that I wanted to make a local call - I got: the call cannot be completed as dialed" I tried and tried to no avail. I went online to their so called "chat room" to get service. Here I am more than 9 hours of repeticious questioning and stalling and freezeng my computer up (no doubt intentionally) their site also is infected with viruses - stay away from Magic Jack Plus! they let it work for a little while and I believe that they cut you off intentionally and harass you when you dare to ask them to fix the connection. It is willful, malicious and yes, a plain fraudulent enterprise. I listened to Howard Stern Radio who praised them - sorry - you were deceived and with it, most likely many people. They are true conartist in my book.

  • Any company that has a faulty web ordering system and no phone number or address posted to complain to is a questionable operation. At least the Time Warner/Comcast, etc. companies have a headquarters that I can call if I am unsatisfied....which I called once and they gladly handled my complaint. I ordered the Magic Jack and the system accepted my credit card but told me it did not and did not give an order number. So when does my 30 days begin? Or do I even know if it began because they can't find the order. I don't know....I say stay away....

  • I have had good luck with my M Jack for the last few years. BUT - my kids broke it, and I cannot find an address anywhere to order the "$10 replacement , plus shipping, and cannot forward a check because no compnay discloses what their "Shipping and Handling Cost are.

It is what Time Warner puts in a bigger box and rents you in a big empty box at several times the cost M Jack; My only complaint is the "Free Directory Service," which works like an internet search, and gives you the advertisers # ten times, before it quits repeating these contacts.   • 3 weeks without a proper working land-line for me.. I've spent forever on the chat and got nowhere! I have a sick mother in law who lives with me who is dependent on the phone and two teenage children who call home all the time (or used too) all my friends and family are complaining they cannot contact any of us at home anymore and all I get from the Live chat is that they have their best technicians working on the problem. I had to switch back to Comcast this week and now I have a temporary number why they try to port my number back from MJ. What a nightmare... I asked for my Money back today that I paid for my international minutes and cost of original porting some $62.00 but of course they are unable to process a refund. Even though the company has promised to provide the minimum service they agreed !! yes I agree, what a joke and a ripoff... Class action - I am In ...

  • DO NO BUY!!! I had Magic Jack for 2 years for my business and it had terrible quality. Then one day it just stopped working. Then I could not renew it because "my account is under review". It has been 6 months now and my account is still under review. That is all they say. I have this phone number on advertising all over the place. I am screwed. And they are now holding the phone number hostage; not releasing it to any other company.

  • Majic Jack Plus is a joke. Purchased mine at Radio Shack. They convinced me into purshasing a protection plan for $8.99. I could return the MJ for any reason for up to a year. After 4 months, returned it as I could get no help ever from Chat Line. They would take your complaint, go away forever and when you asked if they were still there, they had been busy helping another customer. Dropped calls, dial tones in the middle of a conversation, muffled and grabbled while talking, hang ups and could not get back get a dial tone. Radio Shack then informs me that I have to send the MJ back to the their office as they only sell MJ and are not responible for returns. Magic Jack wanted to issue me a credit that I could only spend at Radio Shack. I refused saying I would not buy anything again from Radio Shack and wanted my money back. Fianlly, after talking to a manager, he said they would send me a check under the following condtions: It must be shipped by radio Shack and reach MJ offices before a refund will even happen. It has been 7 days since I returned and who knows how long it took for them to receive. The refund happens 10 days after receipt. I was told I would get a refund because Radio Shack never gave me the terms or conditions. The jerk at Raido Shack even had the nerve to ask me why I was upset when I would get a refund in 10 days. Not having a phone line for starters. My cell phone reception is terrible so until I get my money back, I cannot afford to do anything else. I agree with all others. NEVER WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS JUNK. Customer service? There isn't any!

  • They tell you you do not need to run your computer: but your modem must be full-flag on, your computer set up never sleeps, that way, which is expensive...if you turn everything off via your power outlet, why, then, there is no phone...not much security as a homeline when younger children are home...also, the incredible tangle of wires and connectors around your modem, your computer, and your electrical outlet makes you feel you are sitting in some wired-in-hell. Avoid it. Telepathic communication is much less hellish.

  • Magic jack held my number hostage and kept telling me that my phone company needs to "request" it back and I've called the phone company telling them this and they said that they have sent in the request with no response. ...called magicjack back, they stated no such request has been sent. I do live chats, and they take forever to respond and just repeat the same thing over and over. I ended up getting a new number. Oh and to the person that said your family calls it Magic Crap...they are so right! PLEASE PEOPLE DO NOT BE FOOLED LIKE I WAS DO NOT BUY THIS MAGIC CRAP!

  • Purchased magic jack in 2008. Had continued problems with it working. Never can talk one on one with a real LIVE person. Just chat by computer.I've nobody to blame but myself when it started working good and I renewed for 5 more yrs. Boy was I wrong. This piece of junk keeps going down and I continually have to reboot it at least 3-5 times a day. Enough is enough. So, If you're thinking of getting Magicjack, you better think twice. It's nothing but a piece of junk,and you'll be sorry if you do. Please don't waste your money on this wprthless product.Unhappy customer J. Richards

  • You should level all complaints to the Consumer Protection and Fraud branches of the government. This guy has gotten rich by fraudulent means. He needs to be stopped. You might contact your Congressman and Senator as well.

  • mine worked fine for a year and then my subscription expired. Then the "fun" began. I connected to the live chat as the system kept rejecting my charge card. I connected 4 times and received the same nonsensical answers with no result

  • Purchased MagicJack 02/22/2013. I am still trying to get a phone number. The system does not recognize the Kansas Area Code (620) Area Code (620) covers a land mass of 75 % of the state of Kansas. The only area code listed by MJ is (316) Wichita KS area (160 plus miles away), Area Code (785) which is Topeka, Lawrence, Manhattan, and Ottawa Kansas all 170 miles away
    Then they list area code 913 which isOklahomae and the nearest city is 80 miles away
    I have been on line live chat and get moronic responses that will not let me finish my installation. Nor will these people issue me a phone number that works.
    The whole idea of this purchase was to get out from under a CO-OP phone service only one available me . I have less that 600 persons and 15 business' that I can call without long distance phone charges. Even the Police department is long distance. My present phone bill averages $180monthlythy. So you can see why I tried MagicJack. I am now on vendetta at to make sure no one else is taken in by TV sale Believe it or not. This is the only product ever, I purchased due to TV ads. Well it took 67 years sell me and I was not impressed.5d

    Arrived April 2, 2013 Instead of sending just one, I received 2 MagicJacks. I do not need 2 MJ.
    The company was NOT supposed to send me 2 MJ.
    I opened the first package, set it up, and registered it.
    I used a 10 day trial period from April 2 to April 12.
    One was for $65. and the unopened package for $160. (with 5 yr)

    April 12, 2013:
    Following instructions,
    I printed the return registration sheet (RMA) to return with the unopened MJ.
    On that sheet, it said specifically to return by April 26, 2013 for refund.
    I would not need to send expensive overnight delivery to get it there by April 15
    I returned the unopened MJ in its original package; UNOPENED! (with the RMA sheet)

    April 22, 2013: I received notice that the company had received this MagicJack on April 22.
    I contacted the online chat support. The company is refusing to refund any of this MJ, ($160.) which was not supposed to be sent to me, in the first place. This is fraud. I have kept all of the documentation.
